20th Century Type Sets

WHY MUST THERE BE GOLD? The full USA Type Set does not have gold included. I am on a limited budget -- there is absolutely no way that I will ever be able to complete a 20th century registry set with gold included. Granted, this is not an Earth-shattering issue, but I would like to have the satisfaction of someday seeing "100% complete" next to that set. Can a type set category like this be created? Insight from those who know would be appreciated -- thanks!

This is a copy of my letter to Ms. Pierce. Customer Service for NGC. Hello Ms. Pierce, If you have taken the time to notice, you will see that in the last week or so, several people have posted journal entries reliving not-so-great experiences with NGC's grading process. Each of these authors have received email back from others that have thier own horror stories. Somewhere along the line, your paying customers are going to say ENOUGH!! We, your paying customers, you know, the people who sign

VISION - I

The blindness of a beginner. For the past few months, I have been thinking about the need for "Vision" in one's collecting pursuits. Then, about a month ago, Oldtrader 3 posted a journal entry that provided the catalyst that organized my thoughts. To start at the beginning, I began collecting coins in 1974. It was an impromptu beginning rather than a planned entry into the hobby. Not much thought went into my collecting, just, "This looks pretty. I'll buy it". My "vision" extended no fu

DMPL Dollars: If I Knew Then What I Know Now!!!

Yes, fortunes have been made on Prooflike dollars. Don't you wish you knew how desirable they would become before they did. I have a couple of stories I would like to recount that involve very high profits made on prooflike dollars by people (myself included) who were ignorant at the time they bought them, and did wonderfully on them from an investment standpoint.   My first recollection involved myself and a local coin dealer. I had just graduated from high school in the early 70's. I was wo

How many coin collectors/ investors world wide?

Does anyone have knowledge or know where information is available regarding the estimated number of coin collectors there are currently active world wide? Does this figure tend to remain fairly constant? It would be interesting to know what the estimated coin collector population is in the U.S. With the reduction of Corperate Pension Plans for employees and the trend toward "self planning" for retirement are more people investing in such things as collectables? Interesting questions!!
