About this journal

Friends,

As of first ---- 15 years ago or so we had a FRIENDS list available on our member home page.  A few years ago the FRIENDS were changed to FOLLOWERS by the NGC group.

Now there is not even a followers list on our home page.  Is this Followers list coming back?? Seems the club is moving more and more towards unsocial practices.

Use to be a member could post their journal from their private member page. Now they have to go to Chat Boards to do so. I don't mind it but I know that many members do not use the chat boards. Will there be a link later to post journals from the member page?

A visit to the Wizard

Wizard coin supply that is Friends, I have been busy lately slowly catching up on the slowness that winter causes in debt and less work. As I add jobs to my worksheets it looks like it will be time soon to send in another submission to satisfy my modern coin collecting insanity. A visit to Wizard and a order of 350 poly flips fit the bill but not without a few more additions. I needed the volume 2 cherry pickers guide and decided to add the Authoritative reference on Roosevelt dimes. I h

Looking for mint sets

Working on my mint sets lately. Friends, I have a small chest the I keep my U S Mint sets & proof sets in and would like to fill it. If you have a group that you would like to sell or trade let me know. I presently have around 50% from 1965 to date but would like to fill the holes that are missing in the box and maybe add some earlier sets. I know, "e-bay or auctions" but I have stopped all of that and been buying and trading in the club only. It has worked well for 4 years now and I wo

Modern Coins and spots

Silver Eagles with milk spots "Quick Fix" Friends, We have heard quite a few complaints on coins purchased beautiful but spotted after placed in their safe a few years. Sometimes we don't have the time to pull the coins out and check them and when we do they are spotted. Most blame it on the safe and humidity or whatever. Well the fix for that is NCS for preservation of the coins. Some of the best collections in museums get spotted and are preserved on a regular basis. I found a good rea

Adding a few pics

Always adding coins keeps the camera guy busy Friends, As I add to my page eventually I need to catch up a little on pics so I don't get too far behind. Last week I added a few and today a 1965 NGC MS67FT. Not the best photography but at least a try. ENJOY---Rick To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. Pre-Spring Cleaning

Roosevelt dimes on their way out!! Friends, I have made a decision to follow Todd Henson and sell off my dimes. Most of them were picked for their clearness and strike. I just have a different kick on these then I did when I started collecting them 2 years ago. So the dimes have been added to this page with my Mocoms and will be sold to venture into other choices of coin collecting. Work is picking up and the summer should prove to be another adventurous one in my numis additions. Rick

One for -- Iowa Silver Baron Bammer

Just a pic that made me think of another collector. Brian, First off you really need to shorten your name. It took a whole line to write it out. I was adding pics for the state quarters I got graded in Jan. this weekend and one gave me that ol "Out West" thinking. Of course your sets came to mind so I posted this pic for a good view. Pics of your muscle cars PLEASE!!! Friends, I know this is a coin hobby club but recently # had the decision to sell coins or muscle cars to upgrade his 1879 mint set. Of course he was smart in the decision and kept the cars. David, I would like it if you would post a pic of your favorite car or two that you own and a list. It would be a COOL journal and others may like to see as well. Thanks----Rick To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added b

Thanks to wmfielding

I spent half of the day catching up on photos. Friends, Well Mike did some catching up on his pics last week and I saw I needed 100 or more pics. I had some good sunshine today and figured it was a perfect day to catch up my page. Now every coin has a pic for the showing. Rick To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. January Submission Accepted

State Quarters MS uncirculated stage 2 of 3 Friends, I finally made enough extra cash to send in the second stage of my state quarters. This submission will cover mainly 2005 to 2008 with a few earlier pieces. The first submission (stage 1) covered 1999 to 2004 with 67 coins that filled 29 holes. This submission surprisingly has the same --- 67 coins but will fill 40 holes in the set. I will be sending in the SMS pieces in May or June as I have other sets that need attention and will send i

SEARCHING and SEARCHING

My eyes feel like large sticky bubbles!!! Friends, I don't know how the graders keep from having blurry vision. As I searched through another 4400 statehood quarters sometimes I hit a few rolls that are very lustrous. Of course these are what I am looking for and at first the hits and scratches are very easy to see. The quarters go into the spending pile quickly and the keepers are very few. By the end of 2 or 3 rolls of flipping full luster coins in a light the continuous reflection gets m

NGC quick Turn Around

Quarter Submission was TOUGH!! Friends, I sent in a submission that was accepted on Monday and is already shipped and on it's way home. That sure was a fast turn around on NGC's part. My grades were O-K but really a grade shorter than I was hoping for. I did get 1 MS68PL and a group of 15 MS67s and 30 66s to start the new State Quarter set. I think there were around 5 PL coins and yes I will study them hard to see where the barrier is in the grade differences. I expect to do another submission

CHRISTMAS!!!

Pick a member and send them a coin? Friends, A great time to share and enjoy!!! I have come up with a idea that I think should work swell. Pick another member that you know well enough to send a coin to for Christmas and leave the message on this thread. That way different people will be picked by others. You can always check this thread in my messages to see who sent to who. What do you think? To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Christmas is getting closer by the day

My wife has asked me what I want... Friends, I did finally get around to renewing my membership this week. I sent in a group of circulated state quarters for grading and hope NGC will have a Christmas gift or two in there for me when it returns. My wife asked me Monday what I would like as she knows nothing on numismatics for gifts. I will need to visit a few coin stores and see if I can find a few 1970 to 1980 uncirculated mint sets. I have quite a group but missing a few in that area to c

State Quarters

The last of a chance. Friends, Lately I have been searching the first four years of state quarters for a good submission to put in next month. 1999 to 2003 should boost my mint sets without spending a ton of cash on coins already graded. As the quarters are the largest group in the latter years past 1998 that is my beginning and I will complete the sets as time passes. I purchased 50 rolls from stuartt and now just got 27 rolls from coindude. I do believe that with the combined group I shou

To all ---- a message of peace for Todd Peters!!

Rest In Peace my Friend!! Friends, As most already know our friend has been struggling for two years or more with cancer. His last day was yesterday with family and his struggle is now over. His excitement over the past few years was mainly adding coins to his dime set. The friends he made in the club and coin community was his social network and his commitment and challenge in competing in the dime set was his most enjoyment. Some of us got to know him very well and had a few great laughs in

Vermont state quarter

New Variety??? Friends, While searching 50 rolls I ran across 2 Vermont state quarters with a large extra branch at the top of the left tree. You can see it clearly as a topped off branch to the rear of the tree just under the top right small branch. Here is a pic!! To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. State Quarters

A roll searching week! Friends, I received a monster box of 50 mix date rolls pre 2004 from Stuartt last week. My investment will be $50 over value and the count of submission coins is averaging 2 per roll. I will be down to 10 rolls left this morning with a cool Alabama die break that supports Helen Keller's name like a plant growing off the arm of her chair. Another special coin is the Kentucky with a solid blue reverse, top grade and full luster (looks like a star designation may find this

HOLY FRANKENSTORM!!!

I hope all you guys are SAFE!!! Friends, As I usually buy and sell all my coins in the club I have made quite a few friends in NY,NJ,VA,PA,Ohio,Tenn. and more that are in the route of the storm. I wish all of you the best and hope you can get back to some type of normalcy soon. Rick To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

On A NEW MISSION

What are the chances of starting a NEW State Quarter Set??? Friends, I am in the middle of a crackdown on grading Mint State Quarters with VARIETIES!! As we only have a couple listed with most that were found not listed yet I need to find out how many it takes for variety grades to become authentic. Once we get that situated Stuart and I will find out how many varieties it takes to actually start a Full State Quarter Set--Proof,MS,SMS,including Varieties. I am already thinking that this will e

Where is the speared Bison???

A busy Saturday ahead. Friends, I ran across a mint bag of $50 Bisons. It will be a long easy search this weekend to find a spear. At $10 extra for the bag it seemed to be a deal and will fill a hole in my Top 100 if I do find one. Chances are around 1 in 5,000,000, right?? Ah what the heck---worth a look for sure. HAPPY COIN COLLECTING!!!   Here is a pic of a non - spiked ----ENJOY To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Trades and then more Trades

A month of major trading Friends, I have actually only sold 1 coin in the last month or so out of my sell or trade sets. The trades have been large with three clusters of over $1000 each traveling across the states to get a return of others to fill holes in the sets I am working on. I did two Roosevelt dime trades with Mavins that really popped my clad Roosevelt set into gear and last night a large trade of Silver Eagles to get some Mocom Dollars for the Modern Commemorative set. It is k

My Gratitude and Thanks!!!

What a QUICK TURNAROUND Friends, I did a journal yesterday on variety dimes and expressed a thought that was in my mind in the 2nd paragraph. I had asked for a few dimes to help complete TPETERS set. Of course I knew a couple might help in a couple days or so. WOW what a great bunch of collectors!!! There were guys searching E-Bay and even PCGS dealers searching in the PCGS club. It's is a scholar showing that all of you performed and my thanks goes out to you all. In less than 24 hours the

Variety Dime Hunting

Always on the look out!! Friends, I am starting to obtain a fairly large amount of the Roosevelt dimes. In my pursuits I check the pics of the dimes looking for doubling in hopes that I will find another variety to add trying to make up a 10 coin submission for NGC to grade. The Roosevelt dimes seem to be full of varieties that are not listed on the slabs and obtaining a handful is easy once you load large close ups in your set and check them. Many clad dimes do not have variety attributes lis

LOW BUDGET COINS

There is always a way to add a few. Friends, I have wanted a flying eagle cent since I saw one. Lately there are not very many people purchasing coins for sale. Well I mean not very many people wanting to pay the value or close. So the coin purchasing bank is nearly empty as I have done a few trades at FMV that were more acceptable than selling at 30% off (not gonna happen here). I was working today and a old dealer/collector came in and asked me if I wanted a few coins off a couple sheets

MY "FIRST" NGC TOP POP

Roosie ---2007D--- MS68 Friends, With a little extra time today and needing pics for the dimes in the sales sets on my page I started shooting pics. I am going to enter all the pics without slab view but I took a full slab view for a pic of my first NGC top pop coin graded. This is the only MS68 with none higher.
