About this journal

Friends,

As of first ---- 15 years ago or so we had a FRIENDS list available on our member home page.  A few years ago the FRIENDS were changed to FOLLOWERS by the NGC group.

Now there is not even a followers list on our home page.  Is this Followers list coming back?? Seems the club is moving more and more towards unsocial practices.

Use to be a member could post their journal from their private member page. Now they have to go to Chat Boards to do so. I don't mind it but I know that many members do not use the chat boards. Will there be a link later to post journals from the member page?

Heritage or Teletrade ???? Re

Well the choice was made BY MY WIFE Friends; It was a week of mental breaking stress. I have a new job coming at $25 hour and my truck is broke down with no warranty. I still have an old blazer (HOBBY) with a $10K Drive-train. The job will start in around 2 weeks but I have been out of work for 5 months. So I still owe taxes and have 1 high credit card. We have done O-K living off of ungraded coin auctions and small side jobs. But I know the I_R_S will be beating on the door soon and I would l

Heritage or Teletrade ????

Looked at a nice truck yesterday. HMMM Friends; Well I fell a little overboard when I checked out a new F350 Club Cab 4X4 yesterday. The price was around $56,000 witch is pretty unreasonable but the dealer is going to work it down (of course since I must have been the only looker there). Well I get home and Heritage Auctions calls me and wants my set for the A N A show next month ( so did everyone else ). We talked a while "me & Bob Marino" the best consignment fees were 7.5%. Now I c

Last Journal For A While

Yea I gave MY EXPERTISE ADVICE Friends; We all love the journals and read them every chance we have. Recently (for the past six months) wow that's a long time. I have been unemployed, if I was not self employed it might have been easier (I cannot collect unemployment) so I sold everything that was not nailed down to the floor. I did manage to hold on to my wife ( she cooks so good I don't need restaurants) and of course I held on to the coin sets I have grown to love and then there's the dog

I-BID----E-BAY-----PROXI-BID

SEEMS TO BE THE DISCUSSION OF THE WEEK (AMONG MY FRIENDS) Friends; I don't know what all the talk is about I-Bid, I guess a lot of my friends here in the club can save money selling coins there. I logged on today to check out the Morgan Dollars. If you are a collector of Morgans you will get a better price on Proxibid. There were no great catches and actually everything was like a proxibid de-ja-vu . Most of the coins were raw (looked like the coins I sold last month), and the coins that were

MY SET SELLING TEST EXPERIMENT

What would a dealer offer you? Friends; I read all the hoopla of I need to sell and I wondered what if I had to sell? Well if you have a great set (good luck) It dose not matter where you are in the ranks Your coins are gray sheeted. So if you are thinking of selling your "pride & joy" first check on the crappiest price you will get offered = gray sheet value. If you think people would go overboard to purchase your coins (they would have your coins at the same grade already). So as a perso

SELLING

I swore I would stay away from raw Morgans Hey Friends; Sent off some coins for auction (raw ungraded Morgans) and was glad to finally get down to all graded coins in my possession. I have 4 graded coins to crack out and submit for next month.I wanted a couple more but didn't have the finances so I did what I swore I would not do, I purchased 3 raw ungraded coins that I will probably regret later. I have not bought a coin in a while and wanted to submit more than 4 coins for grading.

A PHOTOSHOT WEEK

Are all your coins toned? Friends; We all read about a society member selling their sets once in a while.I have wondered myself, more now than before what could I get and what would be the best direction to go for selling. Like all of us I would hate to part with a set I have probably invested over 2000 hours in for research and purchases. Not to mention total cost = unintelligent mistakes + what I now have in my set. I previously E-mailed around 40 dealers & our favorite 2 auction comp

MY LAST IKE

An Eisenhower won't even get ya a cup of joe Friends; I went through my coins Monday and sent my last ungraded survival kit off to auction. Indian head pennies, proof sets, silver nickles and my altered surface Morgan Dollars. When I stuffed the box there was one 1976 Ike sitting there in a plastic pouch. Well I don't think the auction house would know what to do with one Ike ungraded so I slipped it in my pocket. Tuesday I went to the local convenience store for coffee, pulled out

COIN CLUB

Last night was my first coin club meeting Friends; I have been collecting Morgan Dollars for more than a year. A few months after I started collecting I checked the internet for PCGS & NGC dealers within 50 miles. I ended up with a list of 5 shops and set out to visit them. Wouldn't you know, every one of the stores were shut down. What does a hick in the sticks gotta do to meet other coin collectors? I know "JOIN COLLECTORS SOCIETY", so that is what I did in January. I have learned so m

Pictures for my 300+ point Morgans

I like it when I need to add my pics Hey Friends; Just logged on to add 5 pics to my lower grade coins I listed last week ( the other 16 were not high enough in points). It sure is a blessing to see Mr Thompson putting a coin in his set###WELCOME BACK###. I cut my grass all day so when I got time for a break I decided to pull out the Morgans and update my pics so I could see where I really was. I know a lot of holes are filled but I don't intend on keeping any coins under 300 points. HAP

THE MORGAN DOLLAR KING

There is not one in my set and probably never will be. Friends & Community; Here it is almost July. By now most of us have adjusted to our economical situations. I would imagine I am not the only member holding on by a thread. I am praying that a job will come along soon to get me out of my IRS Hole but that being my only problem I see it as minor. I know others are in worse situations. Every week I find a Wonderful and expensive Morgan for sale and I think to myself "there goe

Yup got my grades

not too bad Friends & Society; Well this will be 2 journals today. I posted the other before dinner and after dinner I got the E-mail I was waiting on (grades are ready). I was not expecting much because these coins were coins I didn't want to grade. But with the economy the way it is and work very slow right now I can't bid on a nice coin so I pulled out the reserves and sent them in. It all looked to par for what I figured but one decided to make my week. The 1883s received a AU50,th

She's a beauty queen

Waiting on my 30+ day grades Hello everybody; I had a good week, no major problems and made a little money for bills on a small job. Got home from the job and checked my E-mail for my grades, not available yet. I will get them in the next week, nothing special just slot fillers for my sets. Went through my mail and Heritage Auctions was there. Just paying bills and no extra cash I still had to check it out. I saw a Morgan Silver Dollar that was so sweet ( and almost valued the total of my s

PCGS cross over to NGC

My set would jump in value. Society and friends; I started this quest [collect all Morgan Dollars] around a year ago. First I purchased close to 100 raw coins at which time I became a member of PCGS. After first grades submissions final I was redirected on purchases. 50% of the raw coins were problem coins and 80% of the off-names 3rd party graded [cracked out] were problem coins. So it was a smart decision to stick with PCGS & NGC graded coins right? No not really. PCGS does not li

11 more days

Waiting on my 30 day grades. Friends & Community; If you remember I sent in a submission that turned around in a week (amazed), I still have a 30 day submission out there that finals the coins (except 3) that I have purchased this year. I finally have a local coin show ( 1st annual ) that I will not miss and will probably join the club (Anderson area coin club). I sure hope I get my grades before I attend the show so I know which coins are still needed to complete the full set. I

Sunny Saturday

Just the perfect amount of vitamin D Friends; I cut the grass last week which made a relaxing weekend this weekend. I grabbed my camera & took a few shots using the sunlight shining through my den window. The shots were so good I replaced all my coin pictures. Below is a shot of my new 1891CC.

PCGS must have hired Speedy Gonzales

Grades never came so fast Friends & Community; I sent in a few submissions for grades and figured 30+ days for grades. Usually in the past,15 day or 30 day grading would take 22-35 days. With my coins accepted last week I was amazed to get a e-mail= grades available. My 1901 Morgan graded AU-55 & my 1904s graded AU-50, a little lower than I figured but still pleasing. I still have 22 coins for a 30 day grade submission, if they come back in two weeks I might grow some of the hai

Coin Set Separation

Lucky Find " missing points" Society & Friends; Its raining here so I decided to separate my set in values for future upgrading. As I was doing so I came across a coin I have had for a while, but this 1894-0 was not registered in my set. I quickly added it and 366 point value thinking wow a good find.If I had not decided to split my set into keepers(500 points and up)and trade-offs. I don't intend on trading or selling until I have acquired the full set but I did want to split the set

Two Months ( felt like six)

I didn't even pay for it yet Society Friends; I have seen allot of nice coins purchased over the last few months. Not having the finances yet I could enjoy reading and looking at your beauties. I went to an auction tonight and won the bid on a 1891 CC MS-64,fair price. I wrote the registration numbers down and entered it in my set. That felt soooo good to see points added, yea I'll get my winning e-mail later and pay for it. "FEELS GOOD" HAPPY COIN COLLECTING
