About this journal

It has been about 3 1/2 years since I posted anything in the journals.  Ever since I sold my 1959-Date Mint State Lincoln Cent Collection to purchase some land in north Florida in 2015 I haven't posted any of the coins I still have in my collection.  I see a lot of my old coins in new sets now and I am glad they have started to find new homes.  If any one you Lincoln cent collectors want to you can view the attached registry award link from my former #1 set and use any of the pictures that robec1347 took for me. https://coins.www.collectors-society.com/registry/Coins/awards/WinningSetDetail.aspx?AwardSetID=59937.  Had just about every 1959-date mint state Lincoln in the top grade when I sold the set.  I recently added this NGC ancient to my collection.  Hope you enjoy.  As always thanks for looking and Happy Collecting

Numismatic Trivia Thanks NGC

Crime of 1873, The Comstock Connection, A Tale of Mines, Trade and Morgan Dollars I just want to take a moment and thank NGC for their great numismatic trivia questions that they post almost every week. I have been fortunate enough to win or be the runner up a few times in the past. This past week I was selected as the winner and won this very cool book "Crime of 1873, The Comstock Connection by Robert R Van Ryzin. This is by far the coolest thing that I have won. I also want to thank NGC

Latest PCGS too NGC Swap Out 1981D MS67RD Lincoln Memorial NGC Population of 7

Swapping out the toned coin for the red example Hi Everyone. Last night I picked up this nice NGC 1981D Lincoln Memorial with a NGC Population of 7 to replace the PCGS example in the same grade I had. I am posting a picture of bot examples. I added the NGC example because the population report is lower and I think the color on this one stands out. My PCGS example will soon reside in another collectors collection. I hope you enjoy the picture as much as I do. As always, thanks for looking

Latest addition Hi Everyone. Looking through the Ebay listings the other night when I saw this NGC MS67RD 1978 Lincoln Memorial for sale. NGC grades only 10 at this level with none higher. Lots of Negative Red Numbers

Sometimes you have to give some to get some Hi Everyone. I will keep it short today. As you can see I gave up some serious registry points and coin value today from some of my Lincoln Memorial Circulation Issue Registry Sets. In my number 1 set you can see that I remove both the 1994 and 94D NGC MS68RD examples and deleted some entire sets. Sometimes you have to give some too get some. I am pleased to announce that I will shortly be adding a NGC MS69RD 94 and 94D example. The 94 is a pop

1960D Small Date Lincoln Memorial 106th Anniversary ANA NYC 1997

An Interesting find for $15.00 Hi everyone. I was scanning Ebay the past week as well as many other sites looking to add to my Lincoln Memorial Business Strike collection when I saw this nice 1960D Small Date Lincoln Memorial in an interesting holder from the ANA 106th anniversary in NYC and with no one else bidding I decided to pull the trigger. I received the coin in the mail today and I have to say that it is a very nice specimen. The little bit of scuffing at the 11 o clock position is o

Great Collections coin auction Hi everyone. Last night I was following some coins on several of the auction sites. I saw this particular example NGC MS67RB 1963 Lincoln Memorial on the Great Collections auction site and notice that no one was really tracking this coin. I normally would not buy a red brown example of a coin for my competitive set but since I needed to upgrade from my current MS66RD example I could not resist. I ended up being the only bidder on this coin and for $100 and wi

Heritage Auctions Sells Record Breaking NGC MS68RD 1983 Double Die Reverse Lincoln Memorial

The price has really gone up Hi everyone. I was following tonight's Heritage Coin Auction Live and follow this particular coin the NGC MS68RD 1983 Double Die Reverse. NGC only grades 9 at this level with none higher. It is one of the biggies in a Lincoln Memorial registry set. The last example that sold at a major auction is the example I own now. To be honest I bought my example from the person who had bought it from Heritage and had it in his collection for a few years until I bought it

Would You Take A Chance On This Coin?

For me personally, NO Hi everyone. About a week and a half ago this example of an IGC MS67 RD 1969S Lincoln Memorial was offered for sell on TeleTrade and it failed to sell that night. It is coming up for auction again during the June 4th auction. When I followed this coin the first time the last bid I saw was at $1000.00 WOW, is all I can say. NGC grades only 5 in MS67 RD with one graded higher. NumisMedia list the coin for $630 in MS67 RD. I am in no way convinced that this coin would

NGC 2001D MS69RD Lincoln Memorial Population of 1-Registry Points Correction

Fast response time from NGC Hi everyone. As a lot of you have noticed over the last few days there have been several registry score adjustments for a lot of different collectors and for many different types of coins. I submitted a few score correction request myself yesterday and was very surprised and please for the score adjustment for my 2001D MS69RD Lincoln Memorial which currently is a population 1 coin. This coin went from a registry score of 288 to 820 points for a total gain of 532

NGC MS67RD 1971S Lincoln Memorial Population of 25

Replaced the MS66RD example Hi everyone. This is the latest addition to my Lincoln Memorial set a NGC MS67RD 1971S example with a population of 25 with none graded higher. This particular coin starts a series of Lincoln Memorials through the early 1980's where most of the top population coins only receive 20 registry points. Not sure why this is and hopefully NGC will adjust the scores someday. This particular example has lots of mint luster with fire red tendrils fanning out towards the e

NGC MS69 2003D Lincoln Memorial-My Latest PCGS Replacement

Finding Them As I Can Hi everyone. Here is my latest addition to my Lincoln Memorial Registry Set a NGC MS69RD 2003D Lincoln Memorial. Yes I did have a PCGS example in the same grade in my set and I know some will wonder why or question this decision since the PCGS example still remains in my overall collection. Yes I will eventually try to have an all NGC set as they become available. Also, there is nothing wrong with having an example of both, it just adds more value and variety to my co

Would You Pay $1400 for this coin?

2011 MS68 PCGS Lincoln Shield Hi everyone. I had this particular coin tracked in last nights TeleTrade Auction and all I can say is "WOW" This coin sold for $1400 last night before fees. I know there is such a big debate about the value of PCGS vs NGC coins but this is just out of whack. I have a NGC example of this coin in the same grade that I paid less than $100 for. You decide. A few grams of 10k gold Pays Off

Yard Sale Find For $10.00 Hi Everyone. I have been going to flea markets and yard sales since I was a child. My grandmother on my fathers side was in what they called the junk business back in her day and she would buy unclaimed luggage, storage units and estates. She would then in turn sell her items at the flea market or her thrift store. She had a good eye and I enjoyed spending time with her looking for treasure as I called it back then and searching through all the junk would fascinat

NGC MS67RD 1962 Lincoln Memorial

Slight rainbow toning of the obverse and the reverse. Hi everyone. I just added this very nice example of a NGC MS67RD 1962 Lincoln Memorial. NGC population of 16 with none graded higher. Both the obverse and reverse of this coin exhibit some rainbow toning which I am not a big fan of on Lincoln Memorials but this one caught my eye. What do you all think of the toning? I think it is the only toned coin like this in my collection and I personally like it. As always, thanks for looking and

Another Swap Out-NGC Coin replacing PCGS

1992D MS68RD Hi Everyone. Just added this NGC MS68RD 1992D to my Lincoln Memorial Collection and yes it did replace a PCGS coin of the same grade. The PCGS coin went into one of my other sets so I do still own the original coin. Being a member of the Collector Society it is a goal to own a pure NGC set for this site. Not sure if NGC will eventually remove PCGS US coins from our registry sets and even if they did I would still be ok with it. I was also fortunate to be the runner up in this p

I did have a PCGS coin of the same grade in this slot but any time I get a chance to swap out a PCGS coin for a NGC coin I will do so. 16 coins now shy of a complete set and trying to fill in those slots and any upgrades I can. What is Wrong With This Picture

A costly mistake avoided Hi everyone. Within the last 4 months an NGC MS68RD 1964 Lincoln Memorial sold for $2000 and at the time the seller said it had a population of 1. Shortly thereafter, this example came up for sale and of course I was interested in adding this coin to my Lincoln Memorial Circulation sets. I check NGC Population Report and it did show a population of 2. The seller of this coin listed it several times on Ebay and would drop the price each time it did not sell and re-l

The Envelope Please, And The Winner Is

All collectors are winners in my mind Hi everyone. Congratulations to all the registry and journal award winners this year. In the long run we as collectors are all winners. People collect many different things and for many different reasons. When I started collecting as a child it was for the fun of it. All these years later it is still fun but their are other reasons I collect now as well. I was honored this year to bring in 2 registry awards for my 1959-Date Circulation Issue and for
