Mint set packaging error

Two Colorados-------no Nevada! Recently got some 2006 mint sets directly from Uncle Sam. One set had two Colorado quarters and no Nevada in the Philadelphia set. Anybody run into this yet?

Minnesota D DDR #1

Not Good Enough for NGC I have recently found four Minnesota D DDR's #1. I have read that PCGS is grading these varieties. When I asked NGC they said no. Is this a mistake? I belong to the Collectors Society and only use NGC to grade my coins, I do respect the work they do. This just doesn't seem right. I want to have these coins graded, but it is important to have the proper designation on the slab. Is this policy going to change or was I misinformed. Frustrated This was my answer De

1912-S Liverty Nickel

Its graded, its not perfect, but I couldn't be happier to own it Well, pretty much as I said above. Bought it on auction and paid a little less than wholesale. Its only graded F12 SCRATCHED but still...hard to find. 1912-SLibN

New Morgans

Got some goooood VAMs Hey all, just posting a few recent buys and/or "aquistions". Picked up an 1882-O/O VAM-7, 1888-O "Hotlips", 1891 Dbl Ear VAM-2, 1878 7TF VAM-187. Now check this out: Bought some fillers for my Morgan set, didn't pay much, and they arrived raw. I received 2 BIG surprises; An 1878 7TF I'm guessing MS64/65 and DMPL!! As well as an 1887 (remember it arrived raw) thats a Donkey Tail VAM-1A!!!!! I'm sending these off tomorrow to NGC. Can't wait. The first coins mentioned

Interesting Article from the Pass 1953 Time Magazine on Gold

Gold Pricing in the 1953 and how it Dropped From the Magazine | Business The Gold Slump SUBSCRIBE TO TIMEPRINTE-MAILMORE BY AUTHOR Posted Monday, Nov. 16, 1953   From the major banking houses and money dealers in Europe last week, cables went out to England checking a rumor. The rumor: Russia is dumping 1,000,000 oz. of gold on the market, and the Bank of England has bought some of it in a private deal. The bank in line with its usual policy, refused either to confirm or deny buying g

Finally....

won one I wanted badly Well I finally had a winning on-line bid of a really nice PQ coin{just my biased opinion}..I have had a tough time finding this 1917-D reverse Walker in an MS60-63 grade. The ones I see usually have the typically weak strike through the centers{common for this date with any of the 4 mintmarks} and very little, if any, feather detail on the eagles' chest on the reverse. There often seems to be an inconsistency to the grading of these coins...clean coins with toning and the

MS and SMS

Business and satin surface I have sent in many 2006 Mint set coins the grades run higher than business roll coins and NGC grades them MS or SMS on the holders. I have had sms coins back from grading for well over a month and have not seen them in the population reports. My point was Ngc graded a sms without the correct lable because the South Dokata bussiness strike has not been released yet so you can not have a ms 69, you can have an ms69 SMS.

COIN JOURNAL: A TOOL FOR CREATING LINKS WITH A NON-COLLECTOR

Mom is bored with "coin talk"/ loves journal entries!!! My mother lives quite a distance from me, so we talk on the phone regularly and get together only infrequently. When I turn the conversations to coins (As I invariably do), she feigns interest for awhile, but then develops that "glazed eye" look. She frequently asks why coins interest me so much, but no matter how I try to explain; she just doesn't get it. During one phone conversation, I mentioned the NGC coin journals and she said, "

All my bids lost...

I had bids in with 4 different auctioneers... well, the Long Beach event has come and gone...and since I'm not able to go to many ANA events out of the state, I am reliant on internet bidding. On 4 seperate items being auctioned by 4 different Auctioneers I was the leading/high bidder entering the floor auction....the results?..a big 0 for 4...sigh...two were coins that I had placed modest bids on, hoping to win and upgrade my sets without investing too much. One bid was for a hole in my set t

2006 Roosevelt Proof Dmes

I too, had asked why the slots for the 2006 proof dimes... I had asked in early August why the 2006 slots for the Roosevelt Proof Dimes had yet to be entered into the data base. My answer from them ... by the end of the week. I returned their email with an "OOPPS", no futher reply. So, I guess that Mr Ramsey is right when he stated that they "pacify". For the high cost of membership, I would think that the Collectors Society would take more pride in the registry and the satisfaction of its' me

Heading into 2007-Why did they forget the 2006 Roosevelt Proof Dimes?

Still not able to enter 2006 Proof dimes into the registry. Hopefully this journal entry will light a fire in their bellies!I have asked why that was in July, I was told it will be added next week. Now it's almost October, the final stretch into the 2007 releases. Still not able to enter proof dimes from 2006.What is going on ! I am not sure who handles the registry catagories now, but when I make an inquiry I get an answer, but it's not an answer. Do you know what I mean? Vague, non detailed

....And a hush falls on NGC

They still may be right, but they were wrong once before.... And yes, I'm still concerned about my 1954 proof possible "doubled" dime. I've written customer service with a "how can this be" type letter, and haven't heard anything back from them in 3 days, and now over the Economy EXTENDED timeline. Remember back in the beginning of the year (I'm lucky to remember where I live) when you renewed your subscription to NGC and you got the American Eagle silver coin? When I got mine, it was grad

REPLAY OF THE FINISH

The coins came back as graded. The body bags were ok on two questionable on two others. The coins arrived by the mail man in the regular Brown registered mail box today. I looked over the items and they were nice and fairly done. A couple of marginal items - 65 BR vice 64RB, The 1918 Lg S centavo was slabbed as Sm S, although a "regular" designation at no cost, coin graded correctly, but wrong lable. No surprises. ALL THIS AS A BIRTHDAY gift from NGC.

American Eagle Anniversary Gold Set-Sold Out in 24 HRS

Missed out on getting one and feel like venting OK, I will admit off the top that this is purely sour grapes but what else is my journal for if not to write my thoughts on my hobby.I do not like the constant bombardment of special LIMITED sets....it creates false rarities in my opinion. In 1995 the mint made a Proof American Eagle Silver coin with a "W" mint mark as part of a 10th anniversary set...recently a PF70 sold for $32,000 at auction!!!!...an 11 year old coin selling for more than most

2006 Silver Eagle Die Blemish

Mint Die Error I recently purchased a lot of ten sequential NGC graded 2006 First Strikes graded Gem Uncirculated. While cherrypicking through them, I noticed all ten shared a similar blemish of two small parallel lines on the upper "stars" portion of the shield on the reverse. At first I thought these were bag marks, but they seem to be something that adhered to the die. I am interested if anyone else has this same die mark on their 2006 silver eagles, especially non first strike issues.

Ceti Alpha V... Was destroyed when it blew itself up?? In Trek 2 TWOK I remember when Khan was telling Checkov what had happened. They were on CA4 thinking it was CA5... A nod to NGC just prior to beaming down to Ceti Alpha V? Well, I?ve been either certifying my coins at NGC or purchasing NGC certified coins on-line for several months now, and I must say that it has been a very thrilling, educational, and expensive experience. NGC has certified my coins on several occasions to date, and has always done so within the prescribed time and in a very objective manner. I have learned much from them, and now occasionally ascribe a grade to a raw coin that they la

Losing the excitement

Wait a month and a half to find out.... ...One of the 5 coins that I sent in for errors was an "actual" error. Some of you may of read my entry for my 1954 proof dime that I was almost positive that it was doubled in the word LIBERTY, not like the die shift or anything like that, but the letters being extra thick, and the 4 in the 1954 was messed up as well...extra metal if you will, and the 4 denting into the curve of the 5. Well, I just wrote customer service, and they did send the graders
